How it Began
The Sanctuary was birthed out of a vision and dream given to Pastor Freddie Edwards, with the support of his wife, Suzette, and two children, Shea and Houston.
The first service was held in the living room of Pastor Edwards house April 5, 1998. Within three months the services were moved to a store front in downtown Sylacauga, Alabama. In the storefront The Sanctuary began to expand and the ministry began to prosper.

Two years later, on Mother’s Day 2000, The Sanctuary moved to its third location, a small church in the Five Points area of Sylacauga. Here is where The Sanctuary really began to flourish. The church continued to grow and people’s lives were being changed. Within two years, the church, with more than 100 people attending, had outgrown the facility and was in desperate need to relocate once again. On Mother’s Day 2002, that need was met, as the church moved to its present location on U.S. Hwy 280 in Sylacauga. God had blessed the church with a facility that could accommodate up to 600 people, a family life center, school facilities, and room to grow. It was here that the church was officially set in order.
Since that day, the church has grown to more than 500 who call The Sanctuary their church. But we are far from done. Since acquiring this facility, we have purchased an additional twenty acres of land to expand our property as we move into the next phase of growth.  Our children’s  ministries and youth are located in our family life center that has been remodeled and designed to minister to kids in the most amazing ways.
